Points of interest in Toledo:

This is an example with places to visit but does not represent a specific tour:

    1.  Toledo Cathedral.
       
      It is the spiritual and artistic heart of the city. Gothic, colossal, and built on the site of a former mosque. Must-sees: the main altarpiece, the transparent altarpiece (a sculpture of light), the Arfe Monstrance, and the Sacristy with paintings by El Greco, Goya, and Van Dyck. A curious fact: the people of Toledo say that inside, “the gold speaks.”

      Alcázar of Toledo. An ancient Roman fortress, rebuilt by Charles V. It was a symbol of resistance during the Spanish Civil War. Today it houses the Army Museum and a library. Key fact: its location overlooks all of Toledo and offers spectacular views.

    2. Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. It was commissioned by Isabella I of Castile after the Battle of Toro. Built in the Isabelline Gothic style, it features a fairytale cloister. The façade is decorated with chains belonging to freed Christian prisoners. A poignant detail: it was the place where the queen wished to be buried… but she ended up in Granada.

    3. Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca. Built by Muslim architects for the Jews of Toledo. White, luminous, and of minimalist beauty. One of the finest examples of spiritual Mudéjar architecture. Curious: converted into a church with almost no structural changes.

    4. Church of Santo Tomé. Here you’ll find The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, El Greco’s masterpiece. Small church, big history: a blend of art, legend, and spirituality. Tip: pause before El Greco’s face… because he painted himself there.

    5. Christ of the Light. Former 10th-century mosque, one of the oldest in Spain. Interior with Caliphate vaults and Islamic arches. From the outside, part of the Roman wall and road can be seen. Magical detail: it retains its original mihrab and has a unique light at sunset.

    6. Church of El Salvador. Little known, but key to understanding Toledo’s history. You can see Visigothic, Islamic, and Christian remains in a single building. Highlight: it allows you to walk on a glass floor with archaeological remains.

    7. Church of the Jesuits (San Ildefonso). Majestic, with a Baroque façade and a sober interior. Climb the towers = 360º view of Toledo: cathedral, Tagus River, city walls… Suggestion: ideal as the finale of the tour or for taking great photos.

    8. Royal College for Noble Maidens. Founded in the 16th century to educate noblewomen of limited means. A prime example of Renaissance Toledo’s tranquility.
